The Prediomagno winery was established in 2015 by Emanuela Novello and her husband and Giovanni, east of Turin, in Northwestern Italy’s Piedmont region. The property can be discovered between the ancient hamlets of Montemagno and Grana Monferrato in an area treasured for its UNESCO sites: the Crea Sacred Mountain Sanctuary and the historic underground cellars of the Infernot. The jewel of the estate is its late 19th-century villa that overlooks the medieval Montemagno castle. When the family acquired the property in 2015, the surrounding rolling fields were abandoned and unused. Convinced that this arable land once supported a vineyard, Emanuela was determined to restore viticulture by planting the surrounding 25 hectares of land with indigenous vines of the region. At the same time, one thousand square meters of hidden cellars were extended below the original manor to elaborate the wine.
A fundamental value at Prediomagno is respect for the terroir. The use of chemical fertilizers and herbicides is not permitted in the vineyard, while lower yields, thorough thinning of the vines and bunches throughout the season, lead to increased quality. Harvest is always completed by hand when the grapes have achieved optimal ripeness. In the cellar, the fine wines of the Prediomagno collection are crafted by eminent Italian winemaker Riccardo Cotarella. The winery is certified for sustainable practice by SQNPI – the Italian National Quality System for Integrated Production.
The label that adorns each bottle has been designed to represent the breast feathers of the regional falcon to which the bottle is dedicated. The company’s logo holds deep meaning for the Novello family. The inspiration came from a jewel created by Master goldsmith Sergio Mazzola in the 1960s. Mazzola was a close family friend who trained with the internationally renowned sculptors, the Basaldella brothers. Master Mazzola’s art, which remains sought after today, was inspired by the Longobardian art of the 6th and 7th centuries.
