Tasting Note

I’m going on record with a bold statement. In my opinion, Pecorino is the new Pinot Grigio. The demand for this indigenous Italian grape variety is growing, with delicious examples offering the refreshing, unoaked, fruity but dry style of the most popular Italian Pinot Grigios. The 2024 Nino ‘55 Irma is a blend of 4 complementary grape varieties: Pecorino, Passerina, Sauvignon Bianco and Trebbiano, named after the winery’s founders, Nino and Irma, who, in 1963, re-established the vineyard that Nino’s father originally planted. With a fragrant bouquet of peach, pear, lemon, almond and white flower aromas, Irma is charming from the start. The palate offers a balance of fruity and savoury elements with flavours of lemon, green apple, white grapefruit and peach, underpinned by an appealing minerality. Enjoy now through 2026 alongside a plate of oysters, salt and pepper squid, lemon chicken or pan-seared white fish. Louise Wilson Cormier – Master of Wine March 2025.
